October 2018 Income Report: I Quitted My Day Job 😱 And I Feeeeeel Fine 😅
In this blog, I write about what I am doing to create various income streams that come from online endeavors. The monthly income reports detail my results. Why am I sharing my income publicly 📢 ❓ I hope to gain trustworthiness with you and to keep some degree of accountability for myself.
The reports also motivate me.
I tend to forget my small achievements… and posts like this one won’t let me do it 🙂 Apart from that, they help me to remember how much I have already invested. It’s a motivation to push even harder 💦
Read my income report #38 to find out what happened in October 2018.
What happened in October 👍🏻
October was a good month full of parties, wishes, and hopes!
Yes, I did quit my day job! 🎉😺😅
Quitted the day job 🎉
Yep, finally, it happened!
October 26 was my last day at work. I was thinking of staying part-time as a contractor 👩🔧 but it did not work out 😞
So here I am, unemployed and full of hopes for myself! Surprisingly, I feel pretty much fine 😃 R.E.M. perfectly summarized it in my favorite song:
It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine
So what will I do with all this free time❓
It may seem that I have a lot of time now… but my TODO list is only getting longer and longer.
It does not shrink!
I put there all the stuff I have been wanting to do for a while and was waiting to address when I finally have time.
But do I have enough time? 🤔
It has been already 1 week since my freedom started. So far, I am finding myself in the same time-pressed strict-schedule intense mode as before with the day job. And even despite that, I work less than I hoped 😞
Home-work balance ⚖️
I track the time very closely ⏲️ and already see that working full time at home for yourself has certain challenges that I did not think of before.
For example, the line between home and work is indeed blurred despite the fact I am already used to work from home. I find it’s so easy to get caught up in doing house stuff like cooking or cleaning rather than working.
While being at the day job, the day seemed to be long and pretty much infinite. Now, the day passes quickly and when I count how much time I actually spent on my business, it still less than 8 hours per day.
It’s very hard to fit in 8 hours into a working day! 😣
The only explanation I have is that the hours I count are spent only on pure work activities. No chatting, no socializing, only water and bathroom breaks 🙊 This is sooooo different from the day job!
Giving myself more time to adapt ✨
It has been only one week so far.
This whole week, I felt I was on a long weekend. No wonder I wanted to do some house stuff! I used to have some time for it only during weekends.
I think with time, I will become more efficient on bulking activities of different types together. Cooking will go with cooking and working will go with working! 👩🏻🍳👩🏻💻
LINKCheetah🐆: A backlink management tool
In October, I bought access to LINKCheetah 🐆 via AppSumo.
LINKCheetah 🐆 is a backlink tracking tool that can crawl for new links every 24h and allows you to track all your websites and links in one place in a convenient dashboard. It groups backlinks into meaningful categories, tracks the anchor text distribution, has various reports, and more.
AppSumo had a nice offer for it. I bought one deal and then later, I decided to splurge and bought a second one 😋 I added all my websites there and it became my new toy, over which I drool in the evenings🤤
Here are the features I liked:
👍 the simplicity of data presentation
👍 shows which backlinks are no-follow and do-follow including whether they are indexed or not by Google
👍 flexibility with 3 crawling speeds: 24h, 48h, 72h; the speed affects the number of domains you can track (the slower the speed the more domains you can have)
Things I am missing:
👎 no tags, something that can be really useful
The AppSumo had a sweet deal has unfortunately already expired but you still can get some 🍬 If you sign up through my affiliate link, you will get $10 credit (and I will get $20).
🐘 Website Skyscraper outreach
While I got some great feedback from some of the bloggers about the content, the results were still worse than I anticipated 😒

I feel that maybe my website does not invoke enough trust. Or, maybe it’s just the niche, in which it is hard to get links.
Probably former not latter given the bits of good feedback I got 😒
Personal life 👩🏻
October was quite chilly in Montreal and we even got the first snow ☃️
Since it did not rain much, the weather was actually perfect for jogging, at least from my point of view (hard to run for me if it’s hot). Thanks to that (and my hard training), I ran my first 10 km, and did it twice!
On October 17, it became legal to smoke cannabis in Canada. I don’t smoke nor do I consume it in any other way. But I liked the fact of the legalization. I believe it’s only better for society.
On the photo, you can see a pamphlet I got along with every other Canadian 🍁 as a part of the governmental preps for The Day 🌳
In October, we got a temporary addition to our cat herd. His name is Hendrick 🐱👤 and his owner went on vacation and asked us to babysit him. Our cats were not super happy about it! Only by the end of the week, Masala started tolerating him somehow.
For Halloween 🎃, we just wore masks – it was enough 👹👻😈 Sam made at least two Halloween kids cry with his 👹🤣
And just some Montreal in October 💓
Ok, now let’s go back to the business!
Expenses➖
In October, the expenses were lower than in September because I did not need to the yearly hosting bill 🔵 Instead, as I mentioned above, I bought two LINKCheetah deals via AppSumo. First, I bought one, tried the tool out, liked it, and then decided to splurge 😋

Income➕
The income in October went a bit up comparing to September because I was reminded I have yet another source of affiliate income! 😊
Turns out that my readers also liked OFX (a money transferring and currency conversion service that used to be CanadianForex)! And they registered via my affiliate link and made a few transactions that brought me an affiliate commission. I have to say that the OFX numbers you see below are all the commissions for the whole year. I somehow overlooked it earlier and only found it in October. That’s why I am lumping the numbers for the whole year in into one month.
This was a nice surprise 🙂

Here are my totals for October 2018.
Total income $794.74 minus total expenses $539.71 makes a net profit of $255.03.
The profit number is not that bad. I expected a worse one (as usual.)
Here is the chart with my revenue vs expenses history for the last 13 months. I use the 13-month timeline instead of the 12-month one in order to show you how the current month performed compared to the last year.
November 2018 Plans 📅
In November 2018, my focus will be to try to not freak out since it’s the first month of my full-time entrepreneurship! 😃
Apart from my regular activities for the niche websites, I will definitely be preparing for Black Friday / Cyber Monday ⚫🤖 for all my websites.
I plan to start putting more efforts into this blog 📝 I know I need to write at least 2 posts and I have a bunch of ideas for future articles 💡
Also, I have not yet written the year income report as I planned in October. I was too busy and maybe, I will do it in November.
Since I am not sure about my posting schedule… you should stay tuned by subscribing to my emails!
