December 2020 News Roundup๐Ÿ“ฐ: Whatโ€™s New In SEO & Affiliate Marketing

Merry belated Christmas ๐ŸŽ„โ›„ Happy New Year ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŽ‰

December was remarkable in the sense of realizing how much Google has penetrated into our lives ๐Ÿ˜•

I am not even talking about the most-discussed core update but rather about a blackout of Google services that happened in the middle of December โฌ›

I have tried my best to not focus this issue on Google only ๐Ÿ˜… but it was hard due to all the events coming from it ๐Ÿ˜•

So I decided to omit articles talking about the December Core Update since they are literally everywhere these days and highlight something more interesting ๐Ÿ˜

So in my December news roundup, youโ€™ll read about:

  • How Google explained the December outage ๐Ÿ”Š
  • Google Request Indexing Tool is back ๐ŸŽ‰
  • Chrome browser is getting Core Web Vitals HUD ๐Ÿ‘
  • How to speed up your site if you use Ezoic ๐Ÿš€
  • TikTok affiliate marketing ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
  • 21 SEO experiments ๐Ÿค“
  • The Definitive Guide to SEO in 2021 ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Letโ€™s dive in ๐Ÿ‹

Google Explains The Cause Of The Recent Youtube, Gmail Outage

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰ www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/google/google-explains-the-cause-of-the-recent-youtube-gmail-outage/

What happened to Google on Monday Dec 14? ๐Ÿค” Why the most of its services including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Google Maps, Google Calendar, and more became unavailable?

I am pretty sure you noticed the outage (though, I did not since I was sleeping at that time ๐Ÿ›Œ)

The article above explains what happened and talks about the root cause of the failure. If you are a tech nerd like me, it might be interesting for you to read about it ๐Ÿค“

If you are even a bigger nerd than me ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“ check out the original Google report in Google Cloud Infrastructure Components Incident #20013.

While some Google services are going down, others are going back up! ๐Ÿ˜

Google Request Indexing Tool Back After 69 Day Outage

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰ www.seroundtable.com/google-request-indexing-tool-back-30646.html

In October, Google disabled this feature but in December, they made us a nice Christmas gift by re-enabling it ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿค— the tool was down for 69 days.

I know that many of you have been missing it. On my side, I have barely noticed that it was diabled ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜†

BTW Google keeps making its tools more convenient for webmasters.

Google Integrates Web Vitals HUD Into The Chrome Browser

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰ chromeunboxed.com/google-integrates-web-vitals-hud-into-the-chrome-browser

This article talks about Core Web Vitals and the plans Google has for it.

Apparently, in a recent update to the Canary channel of Chrome and Chrome OS, Google looks to bring the heads-up display (HUD) of Core Web Vitals directly into the Chrome browser.

Making sure your Core Web Vitals are on point is becoming more and more important.

As the article mentions:

as of May 2021, Google will begin using the Core Web Vitals as part of its search engine ranking algorithm

Itโ€™s great to see that Chrome browser will allow us to measure them ๐Ÿ‘ While we are waiting for this feature, you can install this extension.

Now, speaking of improving these vital metrics!

Step-By-Step Faster WordPress Site Speed With Ezoic

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰ www.ezoic.com/how-to-get-a-higher-mobile-pagespeed-insights-score/

Itโ€™s a case study about how to speed up a website that uses Ezoic. If you never heard of Ezoic, itโ€™s an ad platform that allows publishers to increase the ad revenue by 300% ๐Ÿคฏ Read my review of Ezoic here.

I am using it on all my sites and thanks to Ezoic, I was able to reach and exceed my revenue goal for 2020.

However, Ezoic historically has been having a big problem with speed. Their ad implementation used to slow down publishersโ€™ sites a lot ๐Ÿ˜ญ Fortunately, Ezoic has recognized the problem and has been working hard to fix it.

I am currently working on improving the speed of my websites and this case study is exactly what I have been waiting for! ๐Ÿค—

Guide To Affiliate Marketing On TikTok

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰ www.authorityhacker.com/tiktok-affiliate-marketing/

I mentioned earlier that I took an Instagram marketing course because I was curious to see whether I could develop an IG sales channel for my ๐Ÿฆ„ website. Why? I wanted to diversify the traffic ๐Ÿ˜‰

Currently, the conclusion is that Instagram is not a very viable strategy to grow ๐Ÿ˜ญ It requires tons of manual work as it does not tolerate any automation tools ๐Ÿ˜ž

Now, after I found this post, all my eyes on TikTok ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜ Maybe it is the next big thing in affiliate marketing? ๐Ÿ˜‚ or maybe not? ๐Ÿคฃ this post sheds some light on the answer ๐Ÿ˜‰ without asking us to pay pretty penny ๐Ÿ’ธ

Now, you are in a big treatโ€ฆ I mean a big read! ๐Ÿ“– Two next articles are huge

The first one summarizes some SEO experiments that were conducted in 2020. I really liked it because it has tons of confirmed info that can help you to tweak your SEO strategy in the new year.
