Recently, I have discovered that my Elephant š Website got a competition. Not just a competition - a pure copycat! EverythingĀ was copied - the theme, the styling, the structure, the…
Regret, Opportunity, and the Value of History: My Struggle With Selling a Trusted Website
This is a newsletter I sent to my subscribers last week. I publish the newsletters on my website; however, I edit out some information from the public versions.

Do you have an old website (or a few) that you once poured your heart and soul into, only to watch it now collecting dust at the 100th position in the SERPs?
I still do! š
As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, selling these sites is definitely possibleāeven in todayās market.
But the real question is: Should you? š¬
Looking back, I now regret my own decision to sell. And I canāt help but wonder⦠Should I do the same with my other website?.. or hold on a little longer?.. š¤
At a Crossroads
In one of my previous emails, I shared how I sold a website six months after the HCU update, and how I regret that decision š¤·āāļø
I still have a couple of pre-HCU websites left, and Iām running my Pinterest strategy on one of them (more on it in the next newsletter!)
But the other one?
Thatās a different story that brought me to a crossroads.
Unicorn š¦ Website: Forgotten, But Not Gone
This second site is the one I called Unicorn š¦ Website in the āgood old days.ā
I barely touch it nowadays except for occasional guest posts. Itās on Mediavine andĀ brings in about ***edited out*** a monthānot much, but itās something.
āāā I left out some details from my original newsletter. If you’d like to receive these updates in your Inbox in unedited form, sign up:
Iāve been thinking about selling it.
But after regretting my last sale, Iām not so sure.
How This Site Is Different
This website is different from the one I sold a year ago. The sold site had evergreen contentāready-to-use on Pinterest or Facebook.
This one? Not so much š¬
It’s in the tech niche, which means its content becomes outdated faster than you can say “damn it Google”.
But it does have something valuable: history, authority, expertise, and trustworthiness. Itās been around a long time, with real authors with strong online reputations.
The site has DR 46 (Ahrefs Domain Rating), which is impressive. Plus, it has a solid social media history.
Itās even still getting Google traffic š¤Æ
All of this makes me wonder if I should hold onto it, because that kind of history seems to be worth a lot these days.
The Value of Staying with Mediavine
Itās also my only site on Mediavine, which means I get access to all their news and publisher insights.
This also might help my companyās profile for future Mediavine sites.
Untapped Potential?
The topic of the website could also do well on Facebookāitās sensational and newsworthy, and since tech changes fast, people are always hungry for updates.
It could work well as a news site, since I’ve heard those perform well on Google Discover.
This website might have a lot of opportunitiesā¦
Where My Focus Is Now
I just wish I had more time.
Right now, my newest website, which I started about six weeks ago, just before Easter, is picking up speed. Out of all the sites where Iām using my newest Pinterest strategy (there are three of them), this one looks the most promising, with the potential for high RPMs š¤
So, itās my main focus at the moment.
On top of that, Iām launching a new projectāa partnership Iām very excited about š Itās something Iāve wanted to do in the past, and now the timing and collaboration feel just right š¤
What Would You Do?
So, yes, Iām busy. Very busy. And I donāt know when Iāll have time to give š¦ Website the attention it deserves.
Honestly, I really regret selling that other site last year. So maybe I should keep this one?.. And who knowsāmaybe in a year or two (ha-haha) Iāll have time to revive it š
What would you do?
Would you sell a website with a long history (probably for less than itās really worth) and focus on the new projects that are already working?
Or would you keep it, hoping youāll find time to breathe new life into it someday?
