How to Pick Winning Pinterest Topics + AI Search Traffic Insights 🤯

This is a newsletter I sent to my subscribers last week. I publish the newsletters on my website; however, I edit out some information from the public versions.

Ever had a plan that just… didn’t go as planned?

That’s me this week 🙈

promised to dive deep into how PinnerAnalytics works and share my findings on my new pins after a month of pinning in the new Pinterest niche.

But nope — technical gremlins got in the way. Even with a super-duper tool like PinnerAnalytics, my new pins are still buried under my old niche pins. Blame Pinterest’s approach to analytics for that one!

So, I’m postponing that deep dive till next month.

As you can see, I don’t do pre-recorded videos or pre-written newsletters — it’s all real-time, off-the-cuff, and a bit chaotic.
But that’s how the magic happens 🪄

Today, instead, I’ll show you how I choose my next Pinterest topics based on pins already ranking well.

Because why reinvent the wheel when you can ride it?

🔍 Pinterest’s Secret Sauce: Topic Entities (aka Annotated Interests)

Pinterest doesn’t just throw pins at random.

It organizes content into clusters called topic entities — groups of related interests that help the algorithm understand what pins belong together.

This means if you nail one topic, Pinterest might suggest related topics you can tap into 🥹

Here’s my hands-on, step-by-step method to find those golden topic clusters for new pins.

And yep, I made a video showing exactly how I do it in PinClicks, my favorite Pinterest tool (not sponsored).

🤖 AI Search Traffic? Yep, It’s Real!

You might think, “Traffic from ChatGPT? No way!”

But it’s happening — and I’m seeing it on my own sites 🤯

Here’s a peek at the Web Analytics stats in Ahrefs for 🐮 Website I am currently pivoting on Pinterest:

☝☝☝ I left out some details from my original newsletter. If you’d like to receive these updates in your Inbox in unedited form, sign up:

Most of it comes from ChatGPT, with a little bit from GitHub Copilot.

Ahrefs has also just added a section called “AI citations” at the top of Site Explorer’s Overview. It shows how many AI queries are linked to your site and how many unique pages were cited.

“These are actual links in AI answers – not just mentions. Data comes from Brand Radar and is available on all plans” including the free plan I am on 🤗

Unfortunately, this section won’t let you see the actual pages on the free plan, but you can always use the Web Analytics like I do.

The craziest thing?

In many cases, the results themselves are AI-generated content! 😅

And apparently, it is already possible to do SEO for AI platforms like we used to on Google 🤯

It’s called GEO.

To learn how to do that, watch this great video by Authority Hacker: “How to Rank on ChatGPT (AI SEO With Steve Toth)”

🔮 What’s Next?

Summer’s still alive and kicking 🌞
My son’s day camps wrap up next week, then we’re off camping.

So, I’m taking a two-week (or three) break from the newsletter and YouTube to recharge.

When I’m back, I’ll reveal another danger lurking in my Pinterest niche pivot — and trust me, it’s a wild ride! 😱

🤔 Now a question to you…

What’s your go-to method for finding new content ideas when your usual topics start to feel stale? Hit reply — I’d love to hear your approach!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the rest of summer 🧡

P.S. I keep these newsletters real and unscripted — no fluff, no filler, just what’s actually working (or not). Thanks for being part of this journey with me ❤️
